8 Day Morocco Desert Tour

We plan private tours in Morocco from Marrakech to explore the desert, and we'll pick you up at the airport in Marrakech or Casablanca and drop you off at your riad. You will have a free day to visit the famed Jemaa el-Fnaa plaza. Free program and overnight stay in a riad in Medina.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken on a private guided tour of Marrakech Medina by an official Marrakech guide. You will see the famed Koutoubia Mosque, the Medina and its souks, and discover some of Marrakech's hidden gems, like the Ali Ben Youssef Koranic School, the Saadian Tombs, the Bahia Palace, and Majorelle Gardens. In the day, it's best to explore the medina on your own, making your way to the square, which comes alive in the evening with narrators, jugglers, diviners, snake charmers, and music. Overnight in standard lodging.

At 8 a.m., you'll be picked up from your Marrakech hotel and driven across Tizi N'Tichka pass to the High Atlas, a subrange of the Moroccan Atlas Mountains. Then we head south to At Ben Haddou to explore the Kasbah (declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO). This stage was used for Gladiator, Obelix, and The Mummy of the Nile. We'll eat in town. Then we go to Ouarzazate, which means "without noise" in Berber. We'll visit the lovely Taourirt kasbah in Morocco. Hjotel overnight with dinner.

Today we leave Ouarzazate towards the Rose Valley, passing via the enormous Skoura palm forest. This valley grows Damascene roses for rosewater and other uses. May is Rose Festival month. Road of 1000 Kasbahs through Dades valley's lovely Berber settlements. 45 kilometers separate Tineghir. Palm orchards and a Jewish community are famous. When you reach Todra gorges, you may wander the 300-meter-high canyons. Climbers like this spot. After that, you'll visit the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. Then you'll eat lunch at Erfoud. Spend the night at a desert hotel with dinner when you reach Erg Chebbi's dunes.

We'll rise early to see the sunrise over Merzouga's dunes. After breakfast, we'll leave Merzouga for Khamlia, Mali's "town of blacks." We'll have tea and Gnawa music. We'll travel the Erg Chebbi dunes in 4x4, an extension of the sand desert where the Great Dune of Morocco, about 150 meters high, is located. We'll stop at a vantage point that overlooks Erg Chebbi. We'll visit a nomadic family and explore their lifestyle. In the afternoon, you'll ride a camel with a guide to the Erg-Chebbi sand sea. First night is spent under the stars or in a Berber nomadic tent. The store where you'll stay serves dinner.

Get up early in the morning to see the sunrise from the top of a dune in the Sahara desert, followed by breakfast. After these magnificent moments, you will return to the hotel by camel. Then we go to Rissani, the birthplace of the present Alaoui family and home to one of the country's most significant markets. We'll pass via the Tafilalet oasis, which has the world's largest palm grove. We will continue towards Alnif (more desert environment), Tazzarine and Nkob (central oasis producing henna), traversing the Draa Valley, one of Morocco's longest rivers, and passing through the Berber settlement of Agdz, an agricultural community with wonderful kasbahs. Dinner and lodging in local riad.

Today we fly to Ouarzazate, a city famous for its film studios. We also explore the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, which is one of the most beautiful Kasbahs in Morocco; its traditional houses and location make anyone admire it so much; not only is it a beautiful place, but it is also one of the historically rich Kasbahs and a location for some famous movies such as the Vikings and Gladiator. We will continue driving over the high Atlas Mountains to Marrakech, where we will spend the night.
