Itinerary

We organize Best Atlas trek with local guides. After arrival we explore Agadir after we transfer you from the airport to the hotel.

Today we’ll drive for around 120 km to the oasis at Aït Moussa. Enjoy scenic road with wonderful views of the city of Ait Melloul as our road climbs above it to the Ait Baha Plateau. Before we stop for lunch (prepared by our trekking crew), you’ll get to see even more panoramic views, the picturesque Moroccan villages and finally, we’ll arrive at the beautiful Oasis of Bouikhssaine. We’ll start the trek downhill with our mules and muleteers to our first camp among the trees.

After breakfast we start the day’s trek with a gradual ascent. It will take us around an hour to reach two village-fortresses that are great representatives of the local architecture. Located in commanding positions, these village-fortresses are dry-stone built without any mortar and contain impressive doors and porches often with finely carved detail. When we leave the villages, we’ll descend into the Tazayoute Gorge, a beautiful part of the Moroccan countryside, inhabited by wild boars. We’ll travel through the gorge and then climb to cross the col of the Tizi n’Timsguida, before descending to the river for a traditional Berber lunch. Then we reach the night’s excellent camp at the beautiful Oasis of Touchka, located at 479 m. Our trekking for the day will yield 5 or 6 hours walking with 660 m of ascent and 400 metres of descent.

Day 4 :
IMZIE

Our trek today takes us through several small villages and our guide will help us talk to the Berber locals and find out a bit more about how they live in the tough environment of the mountains and plateaus. As we hike, we’ll come to an area of Morocco that is increasingly covered with almond trees and olive groves (these are very characteristic of the region). We’ll then start our climb to Imzie, where we can have some tea at one the local houses, before we continue our trek to our camp. At 670 m we’ll settle down for the night. Our day should give us around 5 hours of walking and hiking.

We will trek into the heart of the wild Tagdichte Gorge, filled with palm trees. Fro there we’ll climb to the Tizi n’ Tikki Pass at 1380 m. From the col we can descend into the village of Inzguérne that clings to an impressive high cliff and is accessed via a long stone staircase. We’ll take our lunch by the river and afterwards trek for a further 2½ hours to reach Aït Iften, at 1500 m, located below the peaks of the Jebel Lekst. Our day will be 6 hours walking with 1270 metres of ascent and 450 metres of descent.

We follow a shepherds’ trail (sometimes barely discernable) over rocky ground as we climb gradually to the summit of Jebel Lekst (2359 m ASL). From the top we have magnificent views of the Anti Atlas, that extend north to the High Atlas including Jebel Toubkal (the highest mountain in North Africa), and south to Tafraoute and the magnificent desert. These mountains are also home to Cuvier gazelles and though they are shy creatures we certainly have a chance of spotting one or two today. From the summit we have a long descent via Anergui to Anamer and our last camp of the trek will be at 900 m. The day wll be about 7 hrs walking with 760 metres of ascent and 1360 metres of descent.

Today we’ll spend our last morning trekking through a beautiful landscape of lofty crags, palm filled gorges and terraced hillsides that are dotted with Berber mud-brick houses. After approximately 3 hours we reach the large village of Tafraoute in the Ameln valley. Tafraoute has a very relaxed feel and is a good place to buy local craft items. We will take our lunch here before boarding our tour bus and heading through the Ameln Valley and climbing to the Tizi Mlil. Having crossed this pass the road now turns north west around Jebel Lekst and descends to Aït Baha before levelling out for the final stretch into Agadir. When we arrive in Agadir we’ll check into our hotel and also have the chance for a welcome shower before a celebration dinner.

Your final day. Thank you for taking a Best Atlas trek with experienced travel company.
